After the economy went south, card issuers made a ton of changes to their credit card offering. Many of them slashed credit card bonuses as well as credit limits, while others put in more restrictions on credit card applications. Similarly, Chase also put its own set of guardrails and at one point, made it difficult for folks to get approved for small business credit cards. Additionally, Chase also started denying matching card applicants to higher welcome bonus offers. However, that may be coming to an end as I was able to successfully match to a higher Chase welcome bonus offer.
Success matching Chase welcome bonus offer
Earlier this week, I wrote a blog post about my recent application for the Chase United Business Card. Chase eventually approved me for the card after I went through the reconsideration process and submitted the documents they’d requested. However, when I originally applied for the card on September 30th, I’d applied for the following welcome bonus.
Earn a welcome bonus of 60,000 United MileagePlus Miles after you spend $3,000 in the first three months
Much to my chagrin, the welcome bonus jumped to 75,000 on October 1st, the very next day.
Earn a welcome bonus of 75,000 United MileagePlus Miles after you spend $5,000 in the first three months
The reconsideration process meant that it was already a few weeks into October by the time Chase approved me for the card. I reached out to Chase via secure message in order to try getting matched to a higher welcome bonus offer. I was pleasantly surprised to see the response by Chase.
The Pundit’s Mantra
In conclusion, I really hope this signals a trend in the right direction. When I first reached out to Chase’s customer service via secure message, I had my hopes low but was glad that I asked and got matched to the higher welcome bonus.
