British Airways have been the airline that gives back to its passengers throughout the pandemic. The airline was quick to add a year of status to everyone, then another was given to most people. Those that missed out were the April to June 2022 renewals.
Announced today is a little Christmas present for those of us in that group. We have also had another year tacked on to our status, bringing us in line with everyone else. That means everyone has had two years of extensions now and we’re all equal. Happy days!
British Airways Add A Year of Status
E-mails dropped this morning for those with renewal dates in April, May and June. The extensions will be applied to accounts by the end of the first week in January. At the same time, the current 25% reduction in the amount of points needed to renew will be kept in place for all of 2022 now, for all Executive Club members.
British Airways Make It Easy
BA have done their best to smooth travel for people during the pandemic. They have an excellent Book With Confidence policy, where it’s possible to swap your ticket for a credit voucher up to one hour before flying. When you request a voucher, it usually comes into your e-mail in about 10 minutes and you can re-use it immediately.
Due to this, I have been booking travel far ahead with the oneworld alliance airline, as I know my money is protected. That plus the extensions means I trust the brand maybe even more than I did before. They have treated me with respect and I show it back by parting with my hard earned cash. That’s three big long-haul business class trips and one short one all set for 2022 already.
Overall Thoughts
Great to see BA add a year to the final cohort of Executive Club members. It would have been churlish of them not to, considering everyone else got one, but stranger things have happened.
Let’s hope travel doesn’t become more encumbered with restrictions over the next couple of months. It’s already painfully annoying to have to get tested when you’re fully vaccinated, adding stress and cost to travel with is arguably unnecessary.

Given the constant flight changes most airlines are subjecting passengers to, rewarding status holders with free extensions is the least they can do, and basically costs them nothing. Well done BA.
Yes, very welcome indeed!
