Over the years, American Express has been one of the favorites in the miles and points space. They have compelling products that offer opportunities to earn either cash back or bonus points and have a very strong points offering. Moreover, they can also boast about the fact that they have excellent airline and partners to boot. In this post, I’ve highlighted multiple ways in which you can get the highest ever welcome bonus each and every time when you apply for card. However, American Express is now trying out a new method to entice customers into signing up for offers.

American Express Chat Offers

As per Doctor of Credit, Reddit users are pointing out that they’re seeing timed offers from Amex in chat when they’re logged into their accounts. Usually, one sees these bonuses under Amex Offers. However, in this case, this Reddit user was offered a bonus to add an authorized user. As per the image below, this offer was timed and would expire in one hour.

As you can see at the bottom, there was a hard expiration of one hour for the offer.

The Pundit’s Mantra

Overall, I would not be surprised if this type of offer is rolled out to also entice people for welcome bonuses they pre-qualify for. At the moment, you can hover over to the left hand side tab on Amex’s website and check if you pre-qualify for certain card offers.

If this test is indeed successful, then we could well see these times offers appear for new card welcome bonuses or retention bonuses as well. After all, it’s a smart sales technique to have the timer at the bottom, creating an urgency for an offer that’s slated to expire very soon.

What do you think about these new offers by American Express? Do timed offers entice you or put too much pressure to respond compared to offers that have a much longer expiration date? Tell us in the comments section.
