Airplane Inspiration: Cathay Dragon A330

In order to keep everyone’s spirits up while most of us are stuck at home, I decided to start a new photography campaign. Airplane Inspiration will be a series of photographs published that showcase an airline/aircraft/airplanes from my photo bank. I encourage you to comment with your own experience with the airline or aircraft. Please share your photos on Instagram and Twitter using the hashtag #airplaneinspiration. I will monitor the hashtag and comment on your photos. Let’s all reminisce about the better times in aviation. We will soon be back in the air, but for now, keep up that #airlineinspiration. Today’s Airplane Inspiration Cathay Dragon A330 highlights Cathay Pacific’s regional airline.

Location: HKG

Cathay Pacific has two subsidiaries: HK Express and Cathay Dragon. They fly out of HKG airport. Cathay Dragon focuses on regional and China flights, with a major focus on the Chinese mainland. Throughout HKG you can find Cathay Dragon’s A330, some in their new paint scheme (as in the main photo) and others in their old scheme (as in the photo below).

Airline Snapshot:

Cathay Dragon, as mentioned before, is a Cathay Pacific subsidiary focused mainly on China flights. Prior to COVID19, the airline had an all Airbus fleet of A320 family aircraft and A330s. They fly to other destinations outside of China, such as Kuala Lumpur and Kathmandu (in Nepal!). The airline also has the shortest flight in the Cathay network, from HKG to Guangzhou. A train trip between the two cities takes a little over an hour, while the flight takes 35-45 minutes! Cathay Dragon has three classes of service: First class (similar to Cathay’s international business class); Business class (similar to Cathay’s regional business class); and Economy.

Keep up the Inspiration:

If you want to share your photos of the Cathay Dragon A330, or if you want to share your experience flying on the Cathay Dragon A330, tag your photo on Instagram or Twitter with the hashtag #airlineinspiration. This way,  the AvGeek world will stay connected, inspired, and with their eyes on the skies.

Landing Thoughts

I hope this new photo campaign brightens up your day. I know I have been struggling to be on the ground for so long without any clear end in sight. If you want any airline highlighted, feel free to drop the airline/aircraft in the comments. If I have a picture of that aircraft/airline, I will post the photo and a link to your social media too (if you want).
