Aer Lingus have resumed transatlantic services between Dublin and Washington DC. Services restarted today and are operating four times every week. Good news for those US citizens who wish to visit Ireland, I’m sure.
Services had been severely curtailed due to the pandemic, so it is high time these flights started again. Ireland currently has 77.9% of the population fully vaccinated and 89.1% have had their first dose, so the programme here is progressing very well.
You Mentioned The Lounge?
The Aer Lingus Lounge in Dublin has been closed throughout the pandemic as no-one would have been permitted to use it, even if anyone was travelling. The airline has refurbished the lounge during the closure, which I am sure was pre-planned before things shutdown.
Overall Thoughts
It is potentially going to be a long road to recovery for aviation. The United States is still preventing people who have spent the last 14 days in the EU from travelling across the Atlantic. The imbalance, where US citizens can come to the EU without issue certainly can’t last too long. Let’s hope the US decides to rescind that order and soon.
Once it does, I imagine there will be quite a bit of an uptick in travel. Airlines are waiting for it, the travel industry is waiting for it and certainly European citizens are wanting to fly.
It has been over ten years since the Aer Lingus lounge in Dublin has been refreshed, so seeing what they’ve done there will be interesting too. Good news for the beleaguered AerClub members and Irish frequent flyers – it should be a good surprise.
