Lounge access is one of the most important things for me when flying. I always look forward to arriving at the airport, going through security then chilling out for an hour or so before my flight.
Late last year I wrote about how lounge access was not offered at Ibiza when flying Club Europe on British Airways. There were a number of European destinations – some with several flights a day – lacking this feature.
I Was Not The Only One
The idea for the post had come from reading around online. Frequent flyers were commenting that in a world where the differentiation between European business class products came down to the food and lounge, not having lounge access at some places was pretty poor form.
I completely agree. When an airline’s web site specifically states you will receive lounge access when paying extra for business class, you expect to receive just that.
Lounge Access Has Appeared!
Earlier today I received an e-mail from the British Airways Executive Club announcing several cities now had partner lounge access. This is a very good thing. The chosen cities are – Innsbruck, Seville, Ibiza, Krakow, Oporto and Reykjavik–Keflavik.
Ibiza is a good example. There are flights in summer from London Heathrow, London Gatwick, London City, Manchester and Bristol, which is quite a lot. All of these people need lounge access.
Airports like Krakow and Reykjavik-Keflavik with a daily flight each to London Heathrow, Porto and Seville with daily flights from London Gatwick and Innsbruck with up to double daily services in winter from both Heathrow and Gatwick certainly needed lounges.
Overall Thoughts
Since lounge access is promised as a perk of both flying Club Europe and for those with Silver or Gold status, it should be provided at all airports where there are lounges available. Providing access at some airports and not at others really doesn’t cut it.
These changes should enhance the experience flying with British Airways. It shows some investment in the product that improves things for passengers is happening. Hopefully there will be more! Thank you for reading and if you have any comments or questions, please leave them below.
