American Express is currently running a very innovative promotion. With this promotion, you simply have to refer a friend for an American Express card. If Amex approves your friend for the card, you’ll not only earn bonus points for the referral, but also earn an extra 3 points for dollar you spend on your card for the next 3 months.
Referral Bonus: 3 Extra points per dollar
As per the offer, your friend will need to apply via your referral link before 10/28. Once Amex approves your friend for the card, you’ll automatically earn 3 extra points for each dollar you spend on your card. In addition, you’ll also get the referral bonus in the form of points.
I saw a similar offer on my co-branded Hilton Amex card as well
This is a great opportunity to maximize your points earning for the next three months. For example, the Amex Gold card earns 4x on grocery and dining. If you refer a friend and your friend gets approved, you’ll earn 7x on grocery and dining for the next 3 months. That’s an amazing return on spend for stuff you’d purchase anyway.
Similarly, the Hilton Aspire card earns 7x on dining, which will become 10x after you successfully refer a friend.
The Pundit’s Mantra
If your friend gets approved via your referral link, this promotion presents a great opportunity to earn a ton of points on your Amex cards by simply using your card for everyday spend or by maximizing bonus categories like grocery or dining.
