American Airlines, Delta Lead Airline Job Cuts In Past Year

In today’s U.S. Department of Transportation’s federal report on passenger airline employment data, several downward employment trends are noted from 2013:

Number of F/T Employees* change from 2012 to 2013:
US Airways up 491
Spirit up 467
Alaska up 409
JetBlue up 278
Allegiant up 171
United up 146
Virgin America up 27

Southwest down 534
Frontier down 594
Delta down 2,795
American Airlines down 6,243

*Full-time Equivalent Employee (FTE) calculations count two part-time employees as one full-time employee.
