What’s Up With Sky Team and Delta?

You may have seen a post by me this morning regarding my Delta state of mind. While the reasons behind that post still ring true for me, I couldn’t help but laugh at the irony of a change they announced today, and pointed out to me by DeltaPoints. Seems there are some enhancements on the way for your ability to earn MQMs on partner airlines.

While I haven’t done a line by line review of the changes, no more MQMs when flying Korean really jumped out at me. Granted, this doesn’t impact me at the moment, but it would seem that this goes against the idea of a strong alliance. Your thoughts?

  1. Being a Diamond and a
Platimun member for years this MQM NO LONGER given on Korean Air really sucks
What kind of partner is delta
What kind of loyalty do they want from me when they do this to them
Deltas fares are getting way out of line and in many many cases are no longer competitive
I also carry the Delta reserve card
This move proves they are not as good as they used to be
It might be time to find a new partner as Sky miles has really taken a huge step backwards
    Dumb move !

  2. This is the beginning of a very concerning trend for delta to motivate (force!) passengers onto delta metal and off of partner airlines. I am really surprised at the reduced mileage earnings ability for the multiple Asian carriers unless this is a sign that delta will be unveiling many additional flights from North America to Asia. I see that Seattle has been approved as a gateway for additional delta flights to Japan, but I would like to see more options from the east coast. Either way, I’m getting tired of Delia’s “enhancements” as a 6 year platinum.

  3. Does that mean no MQM’s on Delta code shares operated by Korean? I had 25K from that this year alone….

  4. So, even though Korean is a “Partner” you don’t earn MQMs. Crazy how Delta doesn’t want you to fly some of their partners.

Looks like you have to be “in” (the JVs) to reciprocate MQM earning.
