United Airlines: Mercedes-Benz launch at DIA completes hub rollout

Hate fighting your way through a congested airport when you’re trying to make a tight connection?

If you’re a top customer of United Airlines and connecting in one of its key domestic hubs, you can just grab a chauffeured Mercedes-Benz and drive around the tarmac to your next gate.

United Airlines today rolled out its Mercedes-Benz tarmac transportation service at Denver International Airport, completing the rollout to all of its U.S. hub airports, the company announced.

If you haven’t used the service before, here’s how it works: A United rep will meet you either on the plane or as you step off the plane and on to the jet bridge. The person will escort you down the gate stairs to the tarmac, where you’ll get into the vehicle and drive to your next gate. Once there, they’ll escort you to up the stairs to that gate.

Who’s eligible?

The service isn’t for everyone. It’s only for select customers such as Global Services members and United Global First customers.

What kind of a Mercedes-Benz can you expect in Denver? A Mercedes-Benz GL350 BlueTEC SUV, which runs with environmentally friendly, clean diesel technology.

The carrier also has this transfer service at its hubs in Chicago, Houston, New York/Newark, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Washington Dulles.

“We are improving the travel experience from booking to baggage claim for all of our customers, particularly those customers for whom time is the most valuable commodity,” said Jimmy Samartzis, United’s vice president of customer experience. “The expansion of the tarmac transfer program to our entire U.S. hub network meets the needs of more customers at more points throughout their travels.”
