Uber Announces 420 New Headquarter Jobs In Chicago

The leading ridesharing company Uber has announced a major job expansion at its Chicago Headquarters to the tune of 420 new jobs by the end of 2016.

This corporate job expansion comes on the heels of a veto by Illinois Governor of a law that would have implemented statewide regulations of such ridesharing programs. Due to the veto, such regulatory authority remains in the hands of local authorities, so that municipalities like Chicago can maintain its own local ordinances for rules and regulations.

At least under the current State governance, this appears to be a strong move to welcome Uber (and others) to Illinois:

“Through innovation and job creation, Uber is helping drive Illinois’ economy forward,” Governor Quinn said. “Uber’s new expanded headquarters will allow the company to continue its rapid growth and serve its riders and drivers throughout Illinois. While we have more work to do, Illinois is making a comeback and cutting-edge companies like Uber are a key part of it.”

Uber’s Chicago regional headquarters is in the process of expanding to a 56,000 square foot space at 111 N. Canal, Chicago, currently being remodeled for Uber and other tenants including Twitter and Gogo Wireless.
