Wait…. what the heck did he just say?!?!?! OK….let me explain. I love me some first class. It’s just that for this trip, I’m accompanied by MrsMJonTravel. Next week, I’m taking a long planned and routine business trip to Atlanta. MrsMJonTravel and I decided to go down for the weekend at our expense, so I changed my flight to Saturday, and then booked her ticket separately. I was able to request a companion upgrade for her, but unlike my other primary airlines, AA and US, companions do not clear with the elite passenger at Delta, they clear after all other elites have been upgraded. Delta’s domestic upgrade policy for elite Medallions is pretty generous overall, but this is one area where it can get a little tricky.
I had hoped that flying on a Saturday afternoon would mean that few elites would be flying, but a look at the seat map seems to indicate that a lot of premium seats reserved for elites are taken, which likely means there are a lot of people ahead of MrsMJonTravel in the upgrade queue. And what does that mean? It means that I’ll likely be sitting in 27E. Figure it out. 😀
[…] MJonTravel flies to Atlanta on Saturday. You already read about my upgrade dilemma. Well, is it really a dilemma since we all know what will happen? OK, not really. I get to try out […]
Shew! At least I got her (me) out of 27E. 😀
I can’t quit laughing at this. The exact same thing happened to me this week. Air Canada upgraded me, but since my wife is on a separate ticket, I don’t get to sit by her nor do I get my upgrade (Do the math).
On the plus side, I won’t be sleeping on the couch. I guess that counts for something. Right?
You can sit up in first and leave me behind. Just don’t be surprised when your AmEx bill comes and you see that I did some skymall shopping.
Always have your wife tell the FA’s she got your seat and you took the coach one and to please take good care of you. They always do including drinks etc! 😉
Yeah, sounds familiar – that’s OK, I didn’t really want a merlot, this half a can of tomato juice will do…
If I didn’t do that I’d be sleeping on couch
That’s nice of you. 🙂
@Gene, Amen. At least it’s an exit row seat.
Lesson — always assign the better coach seat to the person less likely to be upgraded! I always do this when travelling with my SO.
