Thai Airways First Class Lounge Bottom Line
Thai Airways First Class Lounge review shows their ground experience is one of the best in the industry. The lounge itself might not be the greatest lounge in the world, but the staff’s attention to detail is superb. There is also the option of booking an hour-long massage from the Royal Orchid Spa, which is a blissful experience. The food was the only thing that left something to be desired, but overall an excellent experience.
The Good: Semi-private rooms to relax with TVs that can access CNN International and BBC World News, as well as superb staff.
The Bad: Food selection was underwhelming and quality was meh.
The Noteworthy: A one-hour spa treatment makes any lounge stand out. There are also buggy transports to the gate, which I took advantage of.
Arrival at BKK
I was connecting from a Malaysia Airlines short-haul flight in economy. Although I had checked in online, I was unable to access my mobile boarding pass. Once in the main terminal at BKK, I proceeded to the Thai Airways connections desk. The friendly agent printed my boarding pass, and when she realized that I was in first class, escorted me to the nearby first-class lounge.
Thai Airways First Lounge BKK Facilities
The lounge itself is a very long corridor. There are various semi-private rooms (more on those later), which seems to be a large family room/seating area with amazing decorations depicting Thai culture and nap rooms.
The nap rooms are close to the end of the corridor. They are simple, but they are fully flat, which is better than most airline lounges that offer recliners.
There are also shower rooms, which are on the small side. Outside of the shower area is a large couch. I don’t really know what’s the purpose of this area, maybe to wait for someone while they nap or shower? Who knows.
On the other side of the lounge, there is an open seating area with much more natural light. There you can also find the general dining area, with some food in a buffet style. The food there was very simple, with some sandwiches and desserts. There is also a self-serve fridge with soft drinks.
Semi-Private Rooms
If available, you can reserve a semi-private room for your stay in the lounge. They are basically small living rooms, with a large TV, a desk with a computer, and a couch. The large coffee table can be used to eat as well. Speaking about food, here is the menu for the lounge:
I ordered the green curry, which was very spicy. The problem was that it lacked flavor beyond being spicy. I was underwhelmed.
Spa Facilities
Across the public hallway, you find the Royal Orchid Spa. The spa itself is open to business class passengers, but they may only get a 30-minute treatment. As a first-class passenger, you are given an hour-long treatment and trust me, it’s worth getting to the airport early for it.
There is a small waiting area outside the treatment rooms. While I waited for my treatment, I was brought some cold tea. It was relaxing even from the start. The treatment rooms are beautifully decorated, with the beds adorned with orchids. In what felt like 5 minutes, I was done with my treatment. It really did take 1 hour, but I was so relaxed it flew by.
Notes on Staff Service
The staff at the lounge was incredibly kind. They were willing to help with anything and checked in every 20 minutes to make sure that I was okay. I felt that they were very well-intentioned, and did their best despite the frequent language barrier. The staff made me feel pampered and taken care of. Best lounge staff I have ever had!
Departure from the Lounge
About 20 minutes before boarding, I decided I would leave the lounge. I was offered a buggy ride to the gate, as it was a 20-minute walk away. The transfer is one of the most exciting things I have ever done in my life. I can’t hype it up enough. When we got to the gate, I was whisked in front of the line of passengers going through secondary security. The friendly lounge staffer bid me farewell and handed me over to the equally kind gate agent.
Landing Thoughts
This is one of the best lounges I have been in. The two distinguishing factors were incredibly kind and efficient staff as well as the hour-long massage. The food might have been meh, but I don’t hold it against them very much, the experience was so good overall that I would fly Thai Airways again in a heartbeat.
