Staying at the Hyatt Place hotel in downtown Austin

I had to spend a few days in Austin, the capital of Texas, so I stayed at the Hyatt Place downtown.

It is one block from the convention center. Of course at the moment the convention center has been completely removed and they have just started building the new one on the same spot. I would think it will take the whole of 2026 before it is complete.

The Hyatt Place hotel is a pleasant hotel to stay in. They have free breakfast available every morning and it is a comprehensive breakfast with bacon and tomato and egg and waffles and fruit and lots of other stuff.

Parking is a bit expensive as it is in most bigger cities. It added nearly $300 to the cost of my stay.

Reception:

The people at the check in desk were very pleasant. They acknowledged my status, gave me free water and offered me a late check out.

The lobby is quite a big space with waiting areas, breakfast tables, a little shopping area and a bar.

There are various waiting spaces as well as an area where you can use a supplied computer and printer for schedules and air tickets and stuff.

Breakfast:

Lovely breakfast is enjoyed by all who choose to use it. It is free and available from 06h30 till 09h00.

There is a large variety of food including tortillas, scrambled eggs, Canadian bacon, breakfast potatoes, spicy Mexican chorizo and buttermilk pancakes.

A really yummy experience.

Hotel facilities:

There is a good gym with various machines and exercise balls and weights and stuff.

The room:

A nice size room with a full settee for sitting on, as well as a desk with lamp and chair for working on. A pleasant space.

The cupboard is standard with iron, ironing board, luggage rack and safe. The safe was not as easy to access being on the floor of the cupboard.

The bathroom is a bit on the small side. Only 1 basin and the toilet right between it and the shower in the bath.

Supplied toiletries are by KenetMD and it includes soap, shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. Single shower head with no accessories.

This is the view I had. It is a nice view of the Hilton hotel on the left and a new hotel, apartment construction on the right. In the center is where the old convention center was and where they are building a new larger convention center. They are still pile driving so it will be a while yet.

Conclusion:

Besides the high valet rate this was a lovely stay. The breakfast was great, the room is large and useful.

Overall a good hotel and reasonably good value. For a stay in February you will pay between about $230 and $360 per night depending on room and date.
