A quick check of my local W San Francisco shows lower rates (about 11-13% lower) just using a default search on SPG.com compared to this AMEX rate for April 22-25.
Both rates were prepaid and nonrefundable.
AMEX 3rd night free Wonderful Room = $458 / 3 nights
SPG rate = $393/ 3 nights
AMEX Fabulous room = $598 / 3 nights
SPG $534 / 3 nights
