Review: Room2 Hotel in Belfast – or I should say “hometel”, right?

For this visit to Belfast, I looked around for a pleasant place to stay. I happened across Room2, which suited what I wanted for both the location and price I wanted to pay.

The website bills the place as a “hometel”, meaning rooms have facilities such as a full kitchen, designed for longer stays. Even though I was only staying overnight, I thought it worth checking out.

Room2

Room2 touts itself as “low-carbon” and there are many touches backing this up. For example, some furnishings are recycled, you have to separate your waste in the bin in your room and reusable bags are provided if you need to get groceries. There are many thoughtful touches like this. My room turned out to be quite lovely.

The hotel lobby was always busy, with quite a buzz about the place. It seems to be quite popular all round, and they have live music there frequently. It means it’s far from the funereal lobbies you sometimes get in the more bland chain hotels. That coupled with funky cool decor meant it was decent place to hang out.

The Bathroom

The bathroom in my room had all the usual things you would expect. What I did really love was the style, as the tiles really came across as pleasing to the eye.

In these times, people expect the big bottles for shower products and that was in play here. Happily there was nothing to fault – water was hot, on demand and plentiful!

Did I Mention The Kitchen?

Most surprisingly, the kitchen in Room2 Belfast was not exactly generic. I blinked in surprise when I came across the Smeg microwave, for example. High end choices? So it seems!

Everything you could possibly need was already provided. You would be able to prepare any food you wanted without too many issues. I particularly liked how there was a glass bottle for your milk. Sure beats UHT!

Breakfast!

While the breakfast at Room2 was delicious, it was extortion price wise. I should have bought it when booking and saved about 66% of the price.

Even on a Sunday morning the breakfast area was hopping, in a good way, with trendily clad people all having a whale of a time. Certainly full marks for the vibe and the food and service were decent as well!

Overall Thoughts

Room2 in Belfast is very well located, really well designed and is a great place to stay when in the capital of Northern Ireland. Comfortable beds, nice rooms and friendly staff capped it all off.

The only minor disappointment of the stay was when I called reception. When you ring, the number goes somewhere in England and he took a few minutes to realise I was calling from Belfast. I was having problems with the TV remote and the solution, I was told, was to go downstairs and ask reception. Since I was changed for bed, that was not an option, but also no solutions were provided. I’m sure that’s just a teething issue! (Turns out the remote was banjaxed, but I could operate the TV from the controls on it).

Regardless, I would heartily recommend this place to stay and will be visiting again next year. Have you been to this Room2 property or any of their others? What do you think? Thank you for reading and if you have any comments or questions, please leave them below.

They even recycle their welcome notes? They do take their ecological commitments seriously.

Having just taken our first vacation trip to the British Isles quite recently, my wife and I discovered that A/C is not as common as in some places which can make for difficult sleep if you have to leave a window open for air and it gets quite bright at 5:30 in the morning. Accordingly, air conditioning becomes quite important. Did room2 have air con?
