Sometimes, the hotel views that win a slot in Travel Update’s reader-based “Worst view ever?” series has more to do with unfulfilled expectations than truly awful views. This week’s winning entry from BoardingArea MJ on Travel blogger Marshall Jackson fits in that category.

Jackson’s photo shows a disappointing view of a parking lot from the Renaissance hotel at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). I say disappointing for one reason only: Who among us wouldn’t want a room with some killer views of the action on the runways?

In reality, though, Jackson told me that he really didn’t care about the unfortunate view from his club-floor room.

“It’s an airport hotel, and I’m here 1 night. I’ll live.”

Traveler tip: According to advice from Room77.com, a hotel booking site that offers tips on specific hotel views, the best views at the Renaissance LAX can be had by staying in an even-numbered room on floors 6 – 11. “They offer the best views of LAX airport and its runways,” the site says.
