Most of frequent flyer land is well aware that today is D-Day for the AAdvantage and Dividend Miles merger. While today is the big day, the full transition of data could take a few days. This is likely one of the bigger airline IT projects and the task of putting together the accounts of 100 million members will take some time. I did manage to log-in to my account at both AA.com and usairways.com at some point today. Some cosmetic updates were noticeable, including a requirement to now include your last name when logging in to either site. The US site reflected my Gold status and listed my legacy AA account balance, but not my combined balance. Since that time, I’ve been unable to log in which leads me to some advice to all that I’m going to follow myself. 
Give it a while – perhaps even tomorrow. As stated, this is one of the larger IT migration projects undertaken by any airline. Constantly checking will only drive up your frustration ratio by about 1000 times. This is an effort taken in stages, and it could be a few days before things really settle down.
In the meantime, it’s Saturday afternoon. Uncork a bottle of wine. Relax. The folks running AAdvantage have piloted this program merger pretty well so far, and I’ve got a tiny bit of faith that it’s going to work out in the end.
