The New Star Wars Hotel Will Cost HOW Much?!

The Star Wars movies and franchise will always hold a place in my heart. After watching the original trilogy as a kid, my 10-year-old self was transfixed with the The Phantom Menace in 1999. Needless to say, I became a lifelong fan.

I was a bit curious about the new Star Wars hotel that Disney will debut in Orlando. Except it looks like it won’t be offering pricing for the masses, which is a bit of a bummer.

Disney’s Money Grab

My other thoughts on the ludicrous cost (and other negatives) of Disney vacations, the estimated prices for the Star Wars hotel seem like a complete cash grab. For a 2-night/3-day stay (which will likely be the minimum stay), you’re looking at $3,300 for one person. One. A five passenger cabin for the same period will potentially be priced at $7,200. That’s a bit better per person, but you’re still looking at $480 per person per day. That’s absolutely insane.

The experience sounds utterly phenomenal though, if you’re a fan of the franchise. It sounds like Disney is pulling out the stops on their new resort. Guests will enjoy a “groundbreaking” experience that is “unlike any other” resort. If Disney delivers on their promise to completely immerse you in the Star Wars universe aboard their “luxury starliner”, the prices may be justified. It’s like any other theme park (or cruise) experience, but on steroids.

That being said, these are not the official prices. These are just the initial numbers being tossed around. But given the low number of rooms, everything else that is a part of the experience, and the number of folks out there who love Star Wars (and are flush with cash), I would not be surprised at all if prices land right around these preliminary numbers.

Should Families Consider Staying?

Well, that depends. If you’re comfortable dropping a considerable amount of money for an immersive Star Wars experience, then sure, go for for it. I’m a big Star Wars nerd, and I would certainly be willing to shell out some money for an engaging experience with my kids. But not this much. The amount of money for a stay is literally what we spend out of pocket on travel over multiple years. My guess is that it’ll be a hard pass for us.

I’ll probably have to settle for seeing Galaxy’s Edge, whenever we finally make it back to a Disney park. Or maybe I’ll start re-watching the original trilogy tonight.

  1. WOW. I guess if they offer unlimited free food and champagne, the price would be a touch less painful, but otherwise you’re right that this is just a giant money grab.
