Have you seen the brand new Icelandair livery yet?

One of the most interesting places in the world to visit is Iceland. It has landscapes like no other I’ve ever experienced, not to mention lovely people and a good vibe. Therefore, the news that there is a new Icelandair livery coming caught my attention.

Iceland was the very first country I visited in Europe when I first landed here back in 2005. Naturally I flew Icelandair from London to Keflavik and back, so I always keep an eye on new developments at the airline.

New Icelandair Livery

The new Icelandair livery is a variation on the old one, with the same tail logo, only now white on blue. Running along the front edge and top of the fin will be a line of colour.

There will be around six different colours used, which will provide some variety on each aircraft. Passengers will probably notice whether they’re on a yellow one, or a pink one and so on.

Not many airlines use different tail designs on their planes. jetBlue have a number of different tails, as do Frontier in the USA, but other than that most tend to keep them the same.

According to reports, the airline will introduce the new colours from January 2022. You’ll have to keep an eye out for them on your next trip to or through Iceland.

Overall Thoughts

I like how the new Icelandair livery has some variety in it. More colour is always good in my book, as I find it more pleasing to the eye than white plus one other colour as seems to be common at the moment with airlines.

What do you think of the change? Have you flown with Icelandair before or been to Iceland? Thank you for reading and if you have any comments or questions, please leave them below.

  1. While it’s hardly original, it certainly isn’t the worst refresh I’ve seen recently. I would like if they used the feature color on either the winglets or front section of the engine nacelles, though that could lead to some mismatches in cases of engine/winglet replacements on short notice. Or maybe paint the ICELAND part of Icelandair in the feature color. But what do I know, my degree is in graphic design. 😉

    1. Hahahaha! I don’t mind it either, it could be a lot worse. I imagine the colours will stand out in deep dark snowy winter time in Iceland. Nice to see airlines doing their usual things again anyway!
