The 4th of July weekend is usually a frenetic and busy time for travel. We see some of the best deals and we often see people hit the road. The weekend is often notorious for very painstaking traffic jams as people head in and out of their cities. Similarly, the US Mexico border is no stranger to vehicular traffic. However, this year things are looking a lot different on the border compared to previous years.

US Mexico Border in Sonora Closes for 4th of July

Citing the fears of possible Covid-19 spread, officials in Sonora have rushed to close the US Mexico border. This move was prompted by officials in Sonora who fear the spread of Covid-19 in Mexico, citing the recent spike in cases in Arizona. Arizona reported over 4,800 new cases in a single day on Wednesday.

The Forth-Worth Star reports about how Mexican officials rushed to quickly close the border on a day when tourism is traditionally at its peak.

Officials in Sonora, Mexico moved quickly to slam the border shut before the start of the July Fourth weekend, traditionally a peak tourism time as Americans flock south to celebrate, the Arizona Daily Star reported. Officials have not announced a reopening date.

“We are all going to be on alert at this time to prevent them from coming, whether they are Mexicans living in the U.S., Americans or those who want to come to spend the weekend and put a greater burden on us regarding COVID,” Senora Gov. Claudia Pavlovich said in a statement, according to the Daily Star.

The Pundit’s Mantra

The last week saw a second wave of increased cases in the United States, with many states recording sudden spikes. Not too long ago, we saw Canada also delay its plan to reopen the US Canada border. After announcing that they would open in June, that reopening date as also been pushed at least until July 31st.

This initial move has primarily been in response to the situation in Arizona. However, Mexican officials, especially in Sonora, as keeping a close tab on all visitors entering Mexico from al other US states as well. Sonoran officials intend to turn away any visitors they deem not to be visiting Sonora on essential business.

[…] US-Mexico border at Sonora closed and Mexico is paying for it. It wasn’t driven by NAFTA renegotiation, or immigration, but […]

SadStateOfOurNation

Can you just imagine this scenario under a Democrat as president?

faux news would be goings nuts about the embarrassment for Americans that Mexico is closing its borders.

I guess pandering works much better when directed to uneducated, ignorant imbeciles…

The problem many have in the U.S. is caring about what other countries think of them. I don’t care what the international community or foreign countries think. I care if I am happy with the outcomes in my own country. And realistically, I only care about how people in other countries with the same political ideology have. I obviously don’t care about what a French liberal or Australian liberal think about policies in the United States. I hate them just as much as U.S. liberals and like when policies make them unhappy.
