Before the midnight hour on Sunday an explosion of shots rang out from apparent machine gun fire after at least one gunman opened fire on a Las Vegas festival where Jason Aldean was performing. ET confirmed that the country star and his team are safe following the incident.
The shots may have come from the top floors of nearby Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino, at which time fans attending the Harvest Country Route 91 Music Festival scattered, trying desperately to find cover. Some reportedly lay on the ground.
A number of outlets are reporting that multiple victims have been identified with two reported dead after being admitted to University Medical Center.
Sin City authorities shut down part of the Las Vegas Strip and Interstate 15 as SWAT came on the scene. Meanwhile, flights in and out of McCarran are said to have been temporarily suspended as certain flights were diverted.
LVMPD stated, “Some flights destined for @LASairport [McCarran International Airport] were diverted due to police incident. Please check with your air carrier if flying/picking up tonight.”
LVMPD also confirmed on Twitter that “one suspect is down” and asked that everybody stay away from the Las Vegas strip. “This is an active investigation,” the Tweet said.
Some 40,000 fans attended the outdoor Las Vegas Strip concert, according to the Associated Press.

UPDATE: Las Vegas Sheriff Joe Lombardo said at a press conference that “well in the excess of 100 [were] injured” in the Las Vegas mass shooting and at least 20 have been pronounced people dead. Exact numbers are not yet released.
Also, Limited flights have resumed at McCarran International airport after all planes were temporarily grounded due to this horrific incident.
