Japan Airlines and Garuda Indonesia strengthen their partnership. The airlines have initiated a joint business agreement to enhance cooperation on flights between Indonesia and Japan, as well as codeshares in their respective domestic networks. JAL will place their code on a number of Garuda domestic flights. Garuda will, likewise, do so on JAL domestic flights. The partnership aims to provide customers with enhanced flight options and network. The partnership seeks to improve frequent flyer benefits as well. Codeshareing is scheduled to begin in spring 2025.

Potential Oneworld Membership for Garuda Indonesia
Currently, Garuda Indonesia is a member of the SkyTeam alliance. Japan Airlines is a member of Oneworld. Although there is no official information, Garuda’s potential membership in the oneworld alliance could be on the horizon. As Garuda has entered into an extensive partnership with Qatar Airways, the airline switch alliances is possible. Other regional partners could be Malaysia Airlines, Qantas, and Cathay Pacific, providing stronger global connectivity. The move would offer Garuda Indonesia’s passengers additional benefits, especially as Garuda is not one of the main players in Skyteam. Nonetheless, as of now, no official announcements have been made regarding Garuda Indonesia’s potential membership in the Oneworld.
