Hotel Review: The handy Hilton at Helsinki Airport

The Flight Detective
a building with cars parked in front of it

There’s a handy Hilton located right at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport, which is only a few minutes walk from the terminal building. I had flown in on a Finnair flight from Dublin, landing close to midnight. That meant I wanted to stay somewhere simple to get to.

I booked using the Aer Lingus e-store, so I could earn Avios on the reservation made through Booking.com. My room cost €182.43 (which wasn’t cheap by any means) and will earn 1,460 frequent flyer miles.

A Handy Hilton

The hotel had sent notice that they were located about 200m from the airport terminal and they were not wrong. It is about a two minute walk, so I was at Reception and checking in quite soon after landing. Even though it was right before midnight, there were plenty of people arriving so it was a bustling scene.

Since the desk agent informed me the bar was about to close, I decided to have a Gin and Tonic for a nightcap before heading up to my room. A lift took me upstairs and soon I arrived at my door.

My Room For The Night

Airport hotels are not particularly exciting and this one was no exception. It was a pleasantly furnished room, perfect for an overnight stay.

Everything was very clean and the bed comfortable. Since I did little more than get undressed and go to bed, there’s not much else I can remark on here.

Bathroom

Interestingly, the bathroom had a bath and a separate shower, something which I find to be relatively uncommon. Usually it’s a shower stall and nothing else, or a shower over a bath.

Again, everything was nice and clean. Next morning, I showered and found everything to work well, with virtually instant hot water, which saves having to run the taps for ages and wasting water.

Overall Thoughts

The handy Hilton at Helsinki-Vantaa provided a nice place to lay down my head for the night. I did not have the best sleep, but that was because I neglected to turn the air conditioning temperature down so I could sleep better.

Friendly staff at the desk at both check-in and check-out were welcome, and for the location it can’t be beat. It’s always nice to be able to walk to or from the airport and not have to take any transport to a hotel.
