I had a quick 4 days in Chicago at the Hilton Home2Suites at McCormick Place in Chicago.

For starters it is an unusual reception area as there are 3 hotels in one building that check in at the same front desk.

The floors are the same, but there are 3 elevator banks that go up to the same floors for the 3 hotels. The only difference that we could discern was that the breakfast on the second floor (that is included) was in 3 different rooms and was different quality.

The 3 Hilton hotels that are in the same building are the Hilton Garden Inn, the Home2Suites and the Hampton Inn.

The room:

My hotel was the Home2Suites and it wasn’t a bad room at all. Checking on pricing for the 2 weeks after I stayed the rooms were available for between R150 and $370 per night. You can see that conventions and other events in the city will have a big effect on the rate.

Here you can see the bed, settee and footstool, the desk and chair, and the kitchen.

2 bottles of water were provided for me on check-in and I was told there would be more every day. I used daily room cleaning and they did provide 2 fresh bottles every day. The man at reception also gave me a bag of nuts and some sweets.

The desk is very basic, not even a separate lamp. Really nice that the tv unit has large drawers.

The kitchen:

The kitchen is the reason I always like to stay in Home2Suites if I can. It is so useful to have a full sized fridge as well as microwave, kettle, plates and cutlery and a sink.

This kitchen only has a microwave. I have been in other suite type hotels that have stoves too.

The bathroom:

Stock standard bathroom with single sink, nice Zero/o toiletries and a shower.

The provided breakfast:

The breakfast is pleasant if not overly comprehensive. There are pre cooked biscuits and fillers like sausage and egg available for you to make your own breakfast sandwich. Make your own waffles are also available as well as bagels and bread.

There is also cereal but I had oatmeal every day. I also took biscuits but put butter and jam on them and used them as scones instead.

Fruit, coffee, tea, juice and milk are also at hand.

This is a picture of the seating area for breakfast. A fascinating area with multiple types of seating, books to read, desks with computers to work and couches.

Breakfast was a pleasant experience and it was busy every day.

The rest of the hotel:

The bar/restaurant on the 22nd floor (the Vurooftop) is a highlight of this hotel. We went up and had a really nice meal and some drinks with a rather magnificent view.

Here is the view towards the lake and then towards the city.

This hotel is also pet friendly so check in and make space for your furry or fluffy friend.

Parking is expensive but normal for big city hotels.

This is the area of the lobby where you can sit at a computer and access flight and travel details and print your tickets, if you so wish.

Nice sofas and artificial fireplace in the lobby, as well as an in house Starbucks.

The Field museum:

We spent an afternoon at the Field Museum which is about 5 minutes drive away from the hotel.

This museum has a fascinating collection of fossils, including a lot of dinosaurs of various sizes, including Sue, one of the best preserved T-Rex fossils ever found.

Conclusion:

If you can overcome the confusion at check in and get your correct hotel it is quite a pleasant stay. The 22nd floor restaurant is great and the proximity to the Field Museum, the Chicago White Sox, the Chicago Bears and the convention center means it will always be popular.
