In the “it’s about time” category, Hertz has announced it will be adding 350,000 new vehicles to its fleet of rental cars in 2015. Here’s what Hertz says it will be doing in 2015.
- 350,000 new vehicles to the U.S. fleet
- Approximately 60% of all vehicles will be getting a makeover
- Enhanced style and safety in virtually every car class, including the Green Traveler Collection
- Over 80% of all vehicles will have a minimum fuel efficiency rating of 28 miles per gallon on the highway
I don’t think I’m the only one that picked up on a noticeable deterioration in the quality of the Hertz product over the last few years. While no rental car company was immune to keeping cars longer, it seemed to me that this was most noticeable at Hertz. Perhaps it was because I’d come to expect a certain level of quality when I was a much more frequent renter several years ago.
In any event, it is a good thing to see Hertz adding new cars to the fleet, but I am interested in seeing what “getting a makeover” means for 60% of all vehicles. Does that mean 60% of the current fleet will be replaced? Time will tell, but I will be on the lookout for a newer vehicle on my next Hertz rental.

Well, it’s about time. I am tired of getting yahoos with way over 50k miles from Hertz. They have been going downhill lately. I really prefer National but my company has a corporate agreement with Hertz.
Agreed, Santastico.
