Which airline have you flown on the most?

When it comes to airline loyalty, some people have mostly flown on just one airline, while others have been on many. You don’t necessarily have to be a frequent flyer either.

Perhaps you choose a single airline because it takes you where you want to be. Maybe you like it because it’s familiar, or, of course, you have status with that carrier.

What Attracts You To An Airline?

What is it that attracts you to a particular airline? When I started flying back in Sydney, I always wanted to fly with Qantas, even though my Dad was an Ansett guy.

I really liked the branding of their domestic airline, which was originally TAA, then Australian Airlines. For some reason their advertising campaigns really resonated with me when I was in high school, so I naturally wanted to fly them.

Above is a typical example of an Australian Airlines TV commercial and I still remember it well. Of course, in late 1996 I joined Qantas Frequent Flyer and eventually firmly allied myself to the oneworld alliance.

Moving to Ireland meant a new airline, but I stayed in the alliance. Despite the fact I moved there, I chose to join British Airways as they were in the alliance and Aer Lingus were not.

Airlines I Have Flown The Most

Considering I log all my flights online, I can see who I have flown the most quiet easily. It’s probably not a surprise to anyone, but British Airways is the airline I have flown the most, with 141 flights.

Despite not being a member of an alliance, my current home town airline of Aer Lingus comes next with 120. My old favourite, Qantas comes third with 65. Surprisingly to some, Ryanair comes after that for me with 35 followed by American Airlines with 26.

Overall Thoughts

When it comes to airlines you have flown, it is a mixture of loyalty and convenience for me. I try to fly with oneworld airlines almost exclusively, but sometimes you just have to use another carrier as they go where you want to go.

What airlines have you flown the most throughout your lifetime? Do they still exist? Thank you for reading and if you have any comments or questions, please leave them below.

    1. Very nice, Qatar Airways are very good, as are BA for that matter. Qatar is 6th for me. I quite like them! Thanks for the comment!

  1. I have flown Delta, Eastern and Mackey 1, Mackey 2 the most. Mackey flew to the Bahamas, Cuba and the Turks and Caicos Islands from the 1940’s until the 1980’s. They were one of the few airlines that never had a serious accident in their entire history!

    1. That’s a pretty unique one to be flying, since they were quite a small airline. Pretty interesting – apparently Mackey even operated one Douglas DC-8! I was just reading about them there. Thanks for the comment!

      1. Would you believe, Mackey operated 3 DC-8-51’s which were original Delta aircraft when they started service from FLL to LAS/LAX in the early 1980’s/ This service didn’t last long as the aircraft had lots of maintenance problems.

        1. It sounds like a huge step up for them as well considering what they operated before. Certainly a unique service for them anyway!

  2. I have flown the most on American Airlines, followed by Southwest; YEARS AGO (1960’s) I liked the OLD Continental Airlines who had the Owl reclined against the tail saying “Continental , the ONLY WAY TO FLY” in their ads.

    1. Southwest are a pretty good airline, they make a lot of money and apparently are quite nice to deal with. Great stuff there, thanks for the comment!

  3. When you mention flights, how do connections fit in? I once flew standby from Miami to Copenhagen for a wedding, flying MIA-DFW-JFK-LHR-FRA-TXL-CPH. That was rather an adventure.
As to the most flown, I’ve never kept track of exact numbers and I’m showing my age here, but I’d say that I’ve flown Pan Am, Eastern, Cathay, TWA, and Delta the most. How many of those are still around?

    1. Well, I count each take-off and landing as one flight, so if you connect you get multiple flights. That is some journey you took to Copenhagen! The only thing I have close to that was Dublin to Sydney, routing DUB-BUD-AMM-BKK-SYD and back. Looks like Cathay and Delta are your only two remaining though you could argue TWA as part of American but not really. Pretty cool list though! Thanks for the comment!
