Flight Review: BermudAir Economy (Bermuda to Westchester)

Background & Booking

On my way back to New York from Bermuda, I decided to try a new airline for me, which is BermudAir.

It’s a very interesting airline that launched in 2023. They originally started out saying they would be an all-business class airline, then switched, and apparently, it’s in the news that they owe money to Bermuda Airport, which has since been resolved.

The flights on the traditional carriers were quite pricey to the NYC area since it was Labor Day Monday. Though BermudAir operates a flight to Westchester (HPN), and it was over $100 cheaper than the mainline carriers into JFK/LGA/EWR, so we booked it! It was significantly cheaper on third-party websites than direct with the airline, and I got the lowest fare type, Economy Light, for a little over $200 one way. Flights from the U.S. to Bermuda are a lot cheaper due to taxes, and the return from Bermuda to the U.S. is generally a lot more.

We flew JetBlue to Bermuda on a relatively new A220; if you want to read my review on that aircraft, you can do so here.

Note: In October of 2025, BermudAir plans to end flights to Westchester (HPN) and will launch service from LaGuardia (LGA) & Newark (EWR).

Bermuda (BDA) to Westchester (HPN)
Scheduled Duration: 2 hours
Status: On-Time (20 Minutes Late)
Cabin/Seat: Economy, 18A

Check-In

Online check-in opened 24 hours before our scheduled flight departure. I hadn’t planned on checking in a bag, which is why I bought the Economy Light fare. However, I had some souvenirs that needed to be checked in. So, I added a bag online, which was $55, or $65 if I waited until the airport.

If you wanted to pre-select your seat before check-in, a standard economy seat ranged from $10-$25, depending on the location on the plane. The extra legroom exit row was showing $80, which seemed like a lot.

I decided to just wait until check-in, as the seat map looked pretty empty just a few days before the flight. Once I checked in, I was assigned a seat in row 24. The plane was pretty empty, so my friend and I moved up to row 18, and I appreciated that they didn’t charge to move our seats after check-in.

At the Airport

The new terminal for Bermuda Airport is quite nice, having just opened in 2020. It was a bit confusing as BermudAir doesn’t actually have its own branding and check-in desk. A JetBlue sign was parked out front of the BermudAir check-in desk, and the only way to see would be to look at the ticketing agent uniforms with the BermudAir colors.

There wasn’t a line, and the agent quickly weighed my bag and printed my ticket out. BermudAir participates in TSA PreCheck, which is nice if you’re leaving from the U.S. Unfortunately, security at Bermuda Airport makes you take off your shoes.

After security, since Bermuda has a U.S. Preclearance facility, you clear customs in Bermuda, which is nice. The normal line vs Global Entry were both pretty short, so I was at the departure gate in no time.

The departure gate has some shops with some (a little pricey) souvenirs. After a quick look, we headed to the Primeclass Lounge, which I accessed with Priority Pass. Not too bad of a lounge, though with a limited food selection. Nice to grab a Rum Swizzle before flying out, though. You can check out my quick review on the Primeclass Lounge here if you’re interested.

Boarding

After a quick stop at the Primeclass Lounge, it was time to head to the gate. Boarding was scheduled for 3:15 pm, 40 minutes before our scheduled departure time. Though we started boarding about 20 minutes after.

Our plane!

Our plane was 16 years old, having previously flown for Republic Airlines and Aerolineas Argentinas. It then joined BermudAir’s fleet in June 2025.

The Aircraft

Our aircraft was the Embraer E190, and BermudAir has 2 of these aircraft, each fitted with 96 seats. It offers 8 seats in business class in a 1-2 configuration, and 88 seats in economy in a 2-2 configuration.

The plane was pretty empty, and my friend and I both got a row to ourselves.

Since the plane is a relatively smaller 2-2 configured Embraer E190, boarding was very quick, and our boarding doors closed just 5 minutes past our scheduled departure time. We seemed to loop around the airport quite a bit (given that it seems relatively small), but then the next thing you know, we were in the air.

In the economy, they provide a complimentary beverage service and snack. Oddly, there are no menus in the seat pocket, just a safety card. The economy seats have 31 inches of pitch, and the legroom felt perfectly adequate for this short flight.

In terms of in-flight service, the flight attendants came out with a chocolate chip cookie from a basket. It was pretty tasty, but quite interesting how they served cookies from a basket. It seemed freshly made, and they were soft.

Then, the beverage service proceeded, and I was impressed that it was served in glassware. Alcoholic beverages were included as well.

Oddly, the pilots never talked to us to give us an update on the flight duration. Was I on a secret flight lol?

No Wi-Fi or In Seat Power

Unfortunately, there were no power ports, and no Wi-Fi. I believe they offer Wi-Fi on the E175 planes, but the E190s don’t have any.

Eventually, the pilots did talk to us as we prepared our descent into Westchester/ White Plains. It was interesting to see all the trees!

A bit of a bumpy flight overall, and a rough landing, but we got to the gate 20 minutes late, which was perfectly fine. Westchester Airport is tiny and easy to navigate, plus the checked bags came out in less than 10 minutes from disembarking from the plane. Took a 15-minute Uber ride to White Plains, and an easy 45-minute train ride to Grand Central.

The Verdict

Overall, it was fun to try out BermudAir for the first time! The cabin experience felt a bit elevated, with glassware for drinks in economy class. Though the empty plane on the Monday of Labor Day makes me wonder if they are doing okay financially.
