United Airlines Could Furlough a Third of its Pilots as Hopes of Quick Recovery Fade – Paddle Your own Kanoo

After a very flat July in terms of travel rebound, I’m not surprised that United will be furloughing pilots. The demand isn’t there. It is a double bummer, as they were provided billions of dollars to hang onto staff, but we haven’t seen travel rebound.

It’s interesting that travel has bounced back so quickly in China. This hasn’t been the same in the USA, that’s for sure. Maybe we will see “revenge travel” and move to pre-pandemic levels much sooner than the current IATA estimate of 2024.
