In previous posts, I’ve highlighted how you can possibly get the best possible credit card offers. Currently, the Amex Everyday preferred card is currently offering a welcome bonus of 30,000 Membership Rewards points.

Amex Everyday Preferred: Welcome Bonus

Amex Everyday Preferred
Instead of the standard 15k, you’ll earn a 30k welcome bonus

With this welcome bonus, you’ll earn 30,000 bonus Membership Rewards points after you spend $2,000 in the first 3 months. This is double than the standard welcome bonus of 15,000 points.

Also, if you’re looking to finance some purchases, the card is offering a 0% intro APR. The 0% intro APR will be valid for the first 12 months. This 0% APR offer is applicable to both purchases and balance transfers. The annual fee for this card is $95.

Bonus Spend Categories

This card offers great return on everyday spend. Following are the bonus categories on this card:

  • 3x Membership Rewards points per dollar spent on groceries (supermarkets)
  • 2x Membership Rewards points per dollar spent at gas stations
  • 2x Membership Rewards points per dollar spent at AmexTravel.com
  • 1x Membership Rewards points per dollar spent on all other purchases

If you make 30 purchases in a month, you’ll earn 50% extra points. In effect, the 3-2-1 spending categories will become 4.5-3-1.5 bonus Membership Rewards points categories per dollar spent. However, Amex caps your bonus points earning in the supermarkets category at $6,000 spent per year.

Transferrable Points

If you have this card, you can transfer points to Amex’s airline and hotel partners. For example, Amex is currently offering a transfer bonus to Hilton Honors. With this bonus, you’ll earn 3 Hilton Points for each Membership Rewards point you transfer.

After meeting the spend requirement for this card, you’ll have 32,000 Membership Rewards points. If you transfer them to Hilton, you’ll earn 96,000 Hilton points, enough for a night at a top tier Hilton!

Other Benefits

In addition, Amex offers many other standard benefits that are similar across many of their cards.

  • Car rental loss and damage insurance
  • Dispute resolution
  • Shoprunner
  • Fraud Protection
  • Pay It/Plan It

Other Card Options

If you’re still looking to earn some valuable welcome bonuses but save money on annual fees, Amex has a few more options that you could consider:

The Pundit’s Mantra

Given the current economic uncertainty, it’s prudent to focus on earning points since most of us are grounded and working from home.

As of today, we don’t really have a clue as to how many months the travel industry or the economy would take to recover. If you’re looking to cut down on annual fees and still earn points on everyday spend, Amex’s Everyday Preferred Card and some of the other options mentioned above could be some viable options for the near term.
