Delta Sky Club Membership and Access Changes

I just received an email from Delta Air Lines advising of changes to Sky Club membership. Here’s a screen snippet.

$695 for a lounge membership, or no more guest access for you. Existing members will receive Executive Membership for the duration of their current membership year. According to the email, these changes are being made to address concerns about overcrowding in the clubs. That is a legitimate concern, but I am going to have to think about this. One thing for certain, my Amex Platinum Card with MrsMJ as an authorized user just became a more attractive product for me…..I think. Here’s a link to Delta.com with more details.

More soon….  and perhaps a blurb on why I think this may not be such a bad thing.

  1. I am tired of people on conference calls making sure everyone can hear their business.
I have been a Detla guy for a while, and not once have I ever been interupted by a kid, as a matter of fact, one Delta club attendent told me the kids are more well behaved then the adults. If your conference calls are so important, go back to the business centers, you can hear a mouse fart back there.

  2. AmEx is discontinuing this perk. The text below is copied from their website for the Platinum card, and I had an online chat with AmEx today, which confirmed that Delta is ending the relationship. So, what is the best way to travel and have club access going forward. Is it no longer with Delta and/or AmEx? Has anyone done any research?

“Enjoy complimentary access to participating Delta Sky Club® and (until 3/22/2014) American Airlines Admirals Club® and US Airways® Club lounges with your Platinum Card® “

    1. Tina,

That text indicates that the AA and US lounges will be leaving on 3/22/2014. That said, I have reached out to Delta for clarification on American Express Platinum Card access, and will report back with what I hear.

  3. Welcome change for me. They are overcrowded, and I’m especially tired of people that bring their entire families in there and the kids are making noise while I’m on a conference call.

  4. I got the email too. And the AMEX Platinum card in general continues to be less valuable. With these changes, Priority Pass and the card itself will not allow guests without additional charges. I have to think that AMEX knew this and the America/US Air lounge access changes were coming, and thus their decision to start building out their own clubs. Time to start thinking about the quirky SkyGuide Membership ???

    1. I read it as not allowing guest access without paying a $29 fee. Since MrsMJ has an Amex Platinum card with her own number as an authorized user, she should gain entrance with that.
