Day 1 of Grand Slam is Behind Us – How’d You Do?

I had 5 hits by my first Starbucks yesterday, but then work got in the way of having fun. 🙂 In short, I was able to:

  • Charge one thing to my US debit card (1 hit)
  • Buy some miles through US Airways’ bonus promo and pay for them using my US MasterCard (2 hits!)
  • Transfer 850 Starwood points to Dividend Miles (1 hit)
  • Purchase Trial Preferred status (1 hit)

I know results like this make me an amateur in Grand Slam lore, but I’ll have more time to play Friday and over the weekend. How did things turn out for you?

  1. Also if you are renting a car do you have to rent the car from different companies to get multiple hits? Also do you have to stay with different hotel groups and get those stays to be credited to Dividend miles to get multiple hits?

    1. As best I can tell, the 6 rentals can be from the same company. I’m sure another reader will chime in if I’m incorrect. In fact, here’s a direct quote from the T&C page of the promo. “Earn 1 hit per mileage earning car rental from a qualifying partner, up to a maximum of 6 hits per member. Hits can be earned by using the same car rental partner 6 times or by using 6 different car rental partners. There are 8 qualifying partners: Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz, National, Sixt and Thrifty.” (emphasis mine)

  2. Bought miles (50,000 plus 50,000 bonus) for $1,478.00 (was going to do it anyway) (1st hit)

Paid for the miles using my credit card (2nd hit)

Transferred 1,500 Starwood to 1,500 US Airways (3rd hit)

Transferred 5,000 Hyatt to 2,000 US Airways (4th hit)

Transferred 10,000 Marriott to 2,000 US Airways (5th hit)

Downloaded toolbar and did 3 searches (6th hit)

Did points.com swap 4 AA miles to 1 US Airways (7th hit)

Spent 500 US Airways miles for Inc. magazine (8th hit)

  3. 12 hits, but most were lined up already via points transfers. The Audience Rewards ticket for $12.50 was a great surprise!
