CNN.com has a pretty good article on mileage millionaires. It even features Boardingarea’s own Gary Leff. I’m a little surprised that the number of frequent flier program members who have reached 1 million miles is only 300,000. That seems kind of low to me. Heck, I consider myself a small-time mileage earner, and I’m rapidly closing in on 1 million AAdvantage miles. It’s a good article, check it out. For some extra entertainment, read the comments. People never cease to amaze me.

Summer Travel Tips From an Ex-Airline Guy
Memorial Day weekend has come and gone and the unofficial start of the summer travel season is upon…
Hi Carol. Thanks for stopping by. Agree with your comments. 300,000 with 1 million BIS miles might be close. But I think the number with 1 million or more balances across all miles (credit card, etc) is higher. Then again, I have to remind myself that everyone isn’t as judicious a collector of miles as I am. 😀 Ha!
My impression of the article was they were mixing FF miles with MQM’s or actual miles flown.
Gary is talking about his accumulated account of frequent flyer miles, which includes credit card miles. I assume Clooney’s character is trying to hit 10 million miles actually flown, which would be quite a milestone with one airline.
As for the 300,000 who have a million FF miles, that came from Randy. I don’t know if it’s high or low so I will say it seems about right to me. But I could be wrong. 🙂
And I definitely agree with you, some of the article comments are a hoot!
