Citi Tops With Amazing Bonuses for their cards, but There is a Major Catch

I came across this interesting piece today:

“Citi is giving three of its high-tier rewards cards a makeover with some massive bonus points. From today, you could earn 150,000 bonus Citi Rewards on the Citi Prestige card, 120,000 bonus points on the Citi Signature card and 100,000 points with the Citi Platinum card if you apply by 31 January 2018.”

I am thinking, “Wait, that is huge!”  The bonus for Citi Prestige had been relatively steady at 50,000 points in the states, though some people get higher targeted offers.  Why hasn’t this been reported widely?

The offer, after all, looked amazing:

Huge bonuses for Australian residents

What’s the catch?   As it turns out, these are new publicly available offers, but they are only available to Australia residents who meet certain criteria.  If you meet the criteria, then you’re in luck!   If you want to get to the application, you can visit the original article for the links. [Disclosure: those may be referral links, though I have no affiliation with the site or any the links.]

Offer For Citi Prestige:

  • 150,000 points offer.
  • Be 18 years or older and an Australian resident
  • Earn more than $150,000 a year
  • And the annual fee?  Ouch.

Offer For Citi Signature Card:

  • Be 18 years or older and an Australian resident
  • Earn more than $75,000 a year
  • Annual fee?

Offer for Citi Platinum Card (fewer travel benefits):

  • 100,000 points offer.
  • Be 18 years or older and an Australian resident
  • Earn more than $35,000 a year
  • Annual fee?

Quick Thoughts

Even without looking at the travel benefits, these bonus offers (assuming the points can be redeemed at one cent per point) are valuable enough to offset the annual fee.

What surprised me quite a bit are:

  • The income requirements (generally not listed in the states)
  • The much higher annual fee for the prestige card, though it looks like there are a few additional premium travel benefits than the ones offered in the states.  This includes “one complimentary night stay per year at of the premium partner hotels”.

There you have it.  For those who always say that the states always have the best offers, these are a set of amazing publicly available offers for qualifying Australian residents.

Don’t wait too long, though.  According to the site, these offers will expire on January 31, 2018.
