Another Citi AAdvantage 3X Offer: Targeted

I’ll admit it up front, my Citi AAdvantage card does not see much spending action from me. In fact, it’s at the top of my list of cards I’ll be parting with in the next 6 months. However, that won’t stop me from taking advantage of a bonus mile offer for spend when they come along, and Citi is back with another. This time around my offer is for 3X AAdvantage miles for spend at grocery stores, gas stations, drugstores, restaurants, and commuter transportation merchants.

The offer is good from enrollment through December 31, 2015, but caps out at 2,500 miles. I don’t know about you, but I’ll hit that threshold long before December! This is at least the third targeted offer I’ve received from Citi on my Citi AAdvantage Executive card this year, which makes me think that Citi has noticed that my spend has tapered down to nil and they want to see more card use. I can understand that, but I’m not sure 2,500 miles is enough to tempt me away from other currencies like Ultimate Rewards. We’ll see what happens and I definitely enrolled in the offer.

While this offer is targeted, it’s always fun to hear from readers who received the same or similar offers. Let’s compare in the comments section. Did you get an offer? What was it? Which Citi AAdvantage card do you carry?

  1. Like others, I got an offer on my Barclays Aviator Red card but not the Citi version.

And like you, one of them has got to go in the next 6 months. These types of offers are the make-or-break for me.

  2. I got the offer, I have the world elite mastercard. this is the first time I have noticed this offer, but I am taking advantage of it

Im with you, i am probably going to cancel the card before my annual fee is due in may.

  3. I received a similar offer. 2x up to 2500 miles, but the best part – below it was an offer for 10x if I used Apple Pay. Too easy – 1 trip to WG and Target – 3k AA miles for $4.95 🙂

  4. I received a Citi AA Exec 3x offer on “eligible online purchases”.

I also received the 3x Silver Aviator bonus mentioned in a previous comment

  5. I have the Citi Advantage Gold card, which I rarely use and keep in my drawer. I didn’t get the offer for this quarter, but I received the exact same offer you received last quarter, and felt it was worth maxing out for the extra AA points. Notably, for the second time, I called to cancel this card last month, and received a retention offer of being reimbursed the $50 annual fee if I use the card for at least 5 $10 transactions. Again, I accepted the retention offer, and I’ll keep it locked away until new bonus offers.

For this quarter, I received a similar offer from the Barclays AAdvantage Aviator card. 3X for gas stations, restaurants, department, toy, and game stores capped at 2,500 miles. I plan to max this one out as well.

  6. Like you, I don’t use this card at all(after the bonus threshold). My offer was 3X points on office supplies, cell phone, cable & internet and insurance carriers. No way I use it for anything but the latter. My State Farm monthly budgeted bill will cap out the 2500 max almost to the dollar by 12/31.
After that, back in the drawer.

  7. I didn’t receive the offer myself, but capping it at 2,500 miles definitely makes it a “mehhhhh” offer.
