Capital One Lounge at DFW disappoints me twice.

The Capital One lounge at DFW has been open about 3 years now. I mostly fly out of DFW so I have found it to be very useful but over the past 2 months I have had issues.

I used the Capital One lounge at DFW on 14th of December and then again on the 7th of January.

Using the lounge on 14 December:

I found the lounge to be constantly busy last year. Let me say 4 times out of 5 there was a waiting list and the wait time was between 10 minutes and about 45 minutes. On the 14th of December I checked in at 10H23 and was allowed in at 10h56, a 33 minute wait.

The waits seem predominant around 10h30 to 12h30 in the morning. Perhaps there are a few international flights that take off at lunch time so those passengers are using the wait time in the lounge.

On the 14th of December I noticed a decline in items that were available. The first thing was that the fridge that faces the entrance where all the take out goodies and water are stored was not working. There was a drape over the front of the fridge, I guess it had a refrigeration problem. That can happen, no problem.

I have also noticed that my favorite item in the lounge, the caramel macadamia cookies were not available. Once again this can happen but it is a worry.

Using the lounge on 7 January:

Come the 7th of January I was at the lounge at 10h45 and interestingly there was no wait, I walked straight in.

Nice people at check-in as always. The staff are always lovely.

And there it was. 24 days later the fridge was still out of order and the drape was still in place. Not a great look for the first Capital One lounge.

There were no caramel macadamia cookies either so I am now more worried. Hopefully I will get some later in the year. I fly again on 19 February so I am ever hopeful. (for cookies as well as refrigeration)

My visit on January 7 was pleasant. I was able to get one of the sunken comfy chairs at the window so I had a full view of all the takeoffs.

This is the cocktail and beer and wine list at the bar. It is still a nice list with something for everyone to enjoy.

Half way through my stay when I stood up to get a refill I realized that the chair was stained. It definitely looks like it has been used a lot.

I understand that the lounge is constantly busy but I would hope they could take 1 or 2 chairs out of commission at a time for a good cleaning.

Available takeout:

I found this egg salad sandwich and a small bottle of water available to take out. Not as nice as the goodies that are usually available in the broken fridge but a suitable replacement. I love the cartons of water but they were not available.

Other Capital One lounges:

I had the change to enjoy the Capital One lounge in LAS Las Vegas on a few occasions and the Capital One landing at DCA Washington DC airport.

They are both great lounges. The Las Vegas lounge is a nicely spread out lounge with a great array of snacks and eats and drinks.

The Washington Landing is a surprisingly enjoyable space. I was worried in that it is open to the hallway and I thought it would be noisy but it is well designed and rather quiet.

That is 3 of the 6 available lounges and I hope to enjoy more Capital One lounges this year.

My next DFW lounge visit:

I fly again on 19 February so I will pop into the lounge again. I hope the fridge is repaired and I am ever hopeful for those cookies.

Let us hope that Capital One keeps a careful eye on this important lounge.

  1. I was at the Vegas lounge a couple months back. Food was dry and definitely not as good as before. They are definitely letting things slip. Hopefully the removal of free guests now will allow maintenance to catch up. Was just at the Sapphire lounge in Vegas and it is head and shoulders above Capital One. Food and drink was top notch and it’s so convenient for all the airlines in terminal 1 as it’s right after security. That’s where I will be going from now on. Centurion will be an ok backup and capital one will just be a quick stop to get some grab and go items.

    1. Thanks for the reply UnitedEF. I haven’t popped in to the Sapphire lounge yet. I am in Vegas in April so it will be on my list. I believe it is a Priority Pass lounge so I can get in with no restriction.
