Capital One Landing:
I really enjoyed the Capital One Landing at Washington DCA airport.
Once I had passed through security I checked the Capital One app to confirm the lounges as I had not been to DC in a while.
The app said that the Capital One Lounge at IAD Dulles International airport was busy (as it normally is at an international airport) but that the Landing here at DCA was quiet. So I turned left from security and walked less than 5 minutes.
The Landing is a lot like any fish or taco or hamburger restaurant in the airport, it is open to the hallways and people passing.
The welcome:
Here are the instructions concerning everyone who can enter and at what cost. I was entering as a Venture X card holder.
The gentleman at the desk was very friendly while he checked my credentials and then led me to a table. He explained the Landing and left me saying “Please call me if you have any issues”. A very nice reception.
Sitting at my table this was my view of the main part of the Landing. Look at this wonderful chandelier …
and this is the view of planes on the tarmac that you have from this spot. Wonderful plane watching.
The food and drink:
These are the 2 display tapas bars where the cold snacks are waiting. Here are olives, lettuce, crisps, cucumber, tomato, hummus and many other choices.
At the cold meats counter there are various types of meat like salami and prosciutto, as well as cheese, tomato and fish. Very tasty.
There is also a desert display. I had cheesecake and flan. The cheesecake was especially delicious.
The bar counter where any drink was available as well as where the trusty cappuccino machine is kept
There is a code on the table for ordering. The wait staff were very friendly and courteous.
I have some pictures of the menu options so you can see what hot food and cocktails are available. The style of Capital One Landings is from Chef José Andrés.
The main meals have choices like red shrimp, chicken and fries, grilled zucchini, grilled hangar steak, 3 cheese sandwiches and others. And a whole slew of interesting cocktails.
Here is the tea and coffee and drinks station. A nice variety of tea bags and coffees are available.
The display on the way to the restrooms. Everything about the landings have an aura of style.
Conclusion:
My first visit to the Capital One Landing was a very pleasant surprise. It has a quiet confidence about it. Even with the one side being open to the walkways the noise outside did not impose.
Connected to the Landing is On the Fly. This is a pop in and out facility. There seemed to be as much variety on offer here as in the landing (of course they do share the same kitchen). An added bonus is that all Capital One and Discover debit and credit card holders get 25% off any purchase here.
Capital One seems to be on to a good One with their Landings.
We went after a July 4 weekend trip to DC a few weeks ago and the lounge was quite and relaxing and easy to get work done than their reg lounges. Food just wasn’t as good as I expected but better than the lounge in Denver. Dallas still has all of them beat.
