Amex Gold Card

The American Express Gold Card is a great card for rapidly earning Membership Rewards Points. The card has a lot of valuable benefits and is currently offering a limited time Rose Gold version. The annual fee for the card is $250.

Here are some of the key benefits of the card:

  • $120 dining credit ($10 each month)
  • 4x Membership Rewards Points per dollar spent on dining worldwide and on US Supermarkets (Up to $25,000 per year)
  • 3x Membership Rewards Points per dollar spent on flight booked directly with airlines
  • 1x Membership Rewards Point per dollar spent on all other purchases
  • $100 Airline fee credit per calendar year (airline selection required)
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Purchase protection, extended warranty and return protection
  • Amex Offers

Limited Time Edition

When it was introduced earlier during the year, it generated a lot of buzz. Now, the limited time rose gold version is back.

Referral Option

You can currently get the limited edition rose gold version by referral. If you apply via refer a friend links, you can get 40,000 Membership Rewards points after you spend $2,000 on the card in the first three months. In order to get the rose gold version of the card, you need to apply and get approved for the card before July 17, 2019.

Existing Cardholders

But can existing cardholders also get the limited time Rose Gold version? Or is it only available for new applicants for the card? I decided to test it out. I’ve held the Amex Gold Card for many years but I have the plain gold version of the card.

Earlier during the year, you could get the Rose Gold Amex by logging into your profile asking for a replacement card. I tried doing that again but the option didn’t show up in my account. I opened the chat window after logging into the account in order to check if I could also switch to the rose gold version.

Me: I saw that the limited time rose gold version is back. Can I get it?

This window popped up with a message after I asked the question.

I selected the option to transfer the card. After I selected the option to ‘transfer’, I was connected with one of the chat reps.

The process was quick and easy

After answering a couple of security questions, I was told that the conversion was successfully processed and that I’ll receive the card in the next 7-10 business days.

The Pundit’s Mantra

I continue to carry the Amex Gold Card in my wallet due to the great benefits as well as the opportunity to quickly earn a lot of Membership Rewards Points. I was curious to know if existing cardholders could convert to the limited edition card as Amex initially advertised the offer only via the refer a friend option.

What do you think about the limited time version of this card? Will you be switching to the rose gold version? Let us know in the comments section.
