A little known fact is that you can get day trips from Dublin to London on British Airways quite inexpensively. The oneworld alliance carrier is often cheaper than Aer Lingus on this route so they’re always worth considering.

Jetting over to London for lunch and a bit of shopping with a same day return may sound outrageous, but it’s not. You save the expense of an overnight hotel, which can be better spent spending elsewhere.

British Airways Day Trips

At the moment, the schedule allows for this with a flight departing Dublin at 7:30am, which gets into Heathrow at 9:10am. That means you can be on your Tube to Central London, arriving there by 10:30am.

On the way back, the flight leaves Terminal 5 at 5:35pm, getting back to Dublin at 7:05pm. You’d need to leave London at about 3:30pm latest to get that service. That’s about five hours of time out in the UK’s capital.

Of course, once the schedule gets back to normal, you will be able to leave London later, to have more time there. British Airways are now even serving complimentary water and a snack in EuroTraveller, so you aren’t restricted to the buy on board menu any longer.

Members of the British Airways Executive Club will also get lounge access in London, as will oneworld frequent flyers. Lounge access is not available again yet in Dublin, but it will be back eventually.

Overall Thoughts

I’ve taken a couple of day trips on this route before. On British Airways I spent £79 back in 2017, which is about €90 today. You can find day trips for this price, as well as out on Saturday, back on Sunday at this low rate.

It is very good value for a full service airline. Remember, these fares include hand baggage only. If you’re planning on a shopping spree and need to bring a bag, you will need to pay more.
