Review: British Airways Club Europe from London to Dublin

The Flight Detective
a man walking in an airport

It’s been quite some time since I’ve reviewed a flight in British Airways Club Europe from London to Dublin. In fact, it’s been well over a year, and this is likely to be one of just four flights I’ll take during 2025 on BA and not one of them a revenue ticket.

After my flight from Cairo, I went through the famous London Heathrow transit security experience. This is another full screening, which is the last thing anybody wants after a long flight, but one that most people have no choice but to endure.

Lounge Woes

It had been quite some time since I had darkened the doorway of the Galleries Club South lounge in Terminal 5. When I was there is was utterly rammed with humanity, so I left and headed for the lounge in the B Gates area.

Alas, this was also very busy, but I found a seat and tried to ignore the chaos around me. After having a drink or two, I headed back to the main T5A terminal via the tunnels. Boarding was from A21 and I waited a short time before boarding was called.

BA836 – London Heathrow to Dublin (LHR-DUB)
3 May 2025
Airbus A320 – G-EUYL
Seat: Club Europe 3A
Departure: 13:35 Arrival: 15:05

As a seasoned flyer, I was quickly on board, had my bag stowed overhead and was seated. Once boarding completed, we had the manual safety demonstration and took to the afternoon sky.

British Airways Club Europe Lunch

Since I was not on my favourite afternoon tea service (available on departures between 14:00 and 16:59), it was lunch. On this sector it is usually a simple salad with a bread roll (no bread plate since 2016) and dessert. And so it was!

All the healthiness of the main dish was balanced out furiously by the decadent chocolate dessert (and the bread roll too!). As usual, the food was pretty fine, though I do think the portion must cost about 38p. I had a glass or two of Champagne (still miss the Piccolos) and we landed in Dublin.

Overall Thoughts

British Airways Club Europe is always fine. The food is always tasty, the crew are always friendly or at worst friendly-ish and it does the job as a business class product in Europe.

Lots of the deluxe aspects of BA have gone over the years, and quite frankly other airlines do business class better within Europe. Still, I don’t have to mind anymore as I won’t have much cause to use BA since they changed their frequent flyer programme.
