Over the years, we’ve often lamented about the direction in which travel credit cards have been going. The fees have gone up, the benefits have been largely altered or cut and more issuers are offering coupon like credits. While welcome bonuses continue to reach new heights, travel credit cards are increasingly getting coupon-ified and therefore more complex. American Express started the trend by refreshing some of their top drawer products. Chase followed suit very soon. After Covid, other issuers have also jumped into the fray by increasing fees on their cards. As per a new survey, is this Amex card also set for yet another revamp?

Amex Card Survey

As per DDG, Amex is sending out a survey to certain cardmembers asking about potential features being added to the Business Gold Card. As per the survey, the card will carry an annual fee of $495. At the moment, the card carries a fee of $375. As per the survey, Amex will introduce a new design option. If one spends over $100,000 in a year, one becomes eligible for a 24K gold plated card.

As per the survey, the card will have the following new benefits:

  • 5x points for each dollar you spend on Amextravel.com (only for flights and prepaid hotel bookings)
  • $300 ChatGPT Business Credit
  • $240 Notion Credit
  • $240 Xero Credit
  • $250 LegalZoom Credit
  • $100 Resy Credit

The Pundit’s Mantra

As per the survey, Amex is testing these benefits with a 200,000 points welcome bonus offer. Moreover, Amex will keep the existing benefits like the Walmart+ credit, 4x points benefit and the $240 flexible business credit.

Every now and then, card issuers send out survey to solicit opinions from cardmembers. Even though I’m an existing cardmember, I haven’t received any such survey. In the past, we’ve seen such surveys often preceding card refreshes or announcement. On the other hands, some other have simply fizzled out with no updates whatsoever.

I won’t be surprised though if this materializes. American Express has been on a revamp spree post Covid and I won’t be surprised if this Amex card also undergoes a refresh.

If Amex refreshes the Business Gold Card as per the survey, would you be encouraged to renew the card for another year? Tell us in the comments section.
