Amex Gold Card: 75,000 points sign-up bonus (Targeted)

amex gold card

Just last week, we saw American Express relaunch the Rose Gold version of the Amex Gold card. While the benefits are exactly the same, some people may find the Rose Gold design more appealing. You can read this post for more about the Rose Gold version and how prospective and existing cardmembers can get it.

Over the weekend, I was casually scrolling the Amex website as I was looking to see if there were any interesting Amex offers for any upcoming spend. To my pleasant surprise, I saw a neat little popup as soon as I logged into P2’s account.

Amex Gold Card: 75,000 points sign-up bonus

With this targeted offer, you’ll earn a welcome bonus of 75,000 Membership Rewards points after you spend $5,000 in the first three months of card membership. For a card that charges a $250 annual fee, this is a fantastic offer. Here’s how the offer showed up on P2’s account.

An enticing offer for sure!

Here’s why I find this offer very interesting. Firstly, P2 has already had the Amex Gold Card in the past, circa 2014. Therefore, this offer effectively bypasses Amex’s ‘one bonus per lifetime’ rule. Secondly, this offer shows up as a ‘pre-approved’ offer as per the terms and conditions.

Pre-Approved indicates that you meet certain criteria for a pre-approved offer and is not a guarantee of approval. Approval is subject to your ability to pay, fraud risk and other eligibility requirements.

Moreover, the card offers the usual earning categories, benefits and credits that come with the Amex Gold Card.

  • 4x points on dining (including takeout and delivery) and grocery spend
  • 3x points on flights
  • $120 dining credit
  • $120 Uber Eats/Uber credit
  • No foreign transaction fees

The Pundit’s Mantra

For a card that charges a $250 annual fee, this bonus of 75,000 Membership Rewards points is fantastic. I plan to jump on to this bonus right away.

American Express has been on a spree of sorts off late. Firstly, they kept revamping their card offering over the last 10-12 to suit consumer spend patterns. Now, they’re ramping up customer acquisition and retention with a slew of new benefits and some amazing sign-up bonuses.

If you’re an existing Amex customer like P2 is, it never hurts to simply log in and look for pre-qualified offers. You never know what you may find.

Which offers show up under the ‘pre-qualified’ section on your account? Tell us in the comments section.
