It was just last month that I signed up for what was a pretty attractive offer from American Express. On my Business Gold card, I got an offer to upgrade to the Business Platinum card. With this offer, I could earn 140,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $10,000 in the first three months. I logged into my account again today and wow, the hits just keep coming.

Membership Rewards points offers

At the start of a fresh month and quarter, I logged into my account and saw yet another pop up offer.

The latest offer is for 200,000 points!

Normally, I would not pay much attention or show any element of surprise. However, this offer comes just a few days after this offer that popped up in my email.

A 90,000 points offer for a product I already have

So, Amex wants me to have one more Business Gold card and offer 90,000 points for it? Ok, nice. It then gets weirder. As I’m scrolling through my account, I see yet another offer.

This offer is for the Blue Business Plus card from American Express. Guess what, I have that card as well. Amex is telling me to get one more. With this offer, I can earn 75,000 Membership Rewards points after I spend $15,000 in the first 12 months.

For now, I’m sticking to meeting minimum spend for the 140,000 points upgrade offer. The 200,000 points offer is tempting but I won’t risk it unless I have some genuine spend to meet the requerements with ease.

The Pundit’s Mantra

If you don’t hold any business credit or charge cards from American Express, your experience may not be the same. In my experience, I’ve just seen a glut of offers on the business side when it comes to Membership Rewards points. What’s really astounding is that Amex is offering you another card of the very same product in a lot of cases.

How do you view these offers? If you can meet spend organically, then these could be fantastic in adding more points to your existing stack of points. However, could this be another diabolical RAT plan to lure in more people who could be doing high amounts of manufactured spend?

What has your experience been like? Are you, like me, taking a more cautious approach based on travel needs, or simply going all in and jumping on to these amazing offers? Tell us in the comments section.
