Finnair introduces new amenity kits with a focus on sustainability

Finnair has introduced new business class amenity kits and have improved sustainability at the same time. Keeping one eye on the environment is something all companies should be doing.

The new kits are designed by Marimekko and feature L:A Bruket skincare products from Sweden. With eight different design combinations, they are both collectible and useful after your flight.

Finnair Amenity Kits

Small changes mean that Finnair expects to reduce plastic waste by a whopping 4,500 kilograms per year. For example, the slippers are made from recycled PET bottles and are wrapped in a cardboard band instead of plastic packaging.

Even the toothbrush is made from bio-plastic containing cornstarch, and the wrapping for the earplugs have been replaced with wax paper. All of this is an effort to be more environmentally friendly, which I like. Two designs will be released at a time, with the kits changing every six months. Four different Maija Isola designs from the 1960s are used, which are called Rautasänky, Joonas, Jenkka and Pieni Melooni. Each kit will also contain aluminium tubes of almond-coconut lip cream and a chamomile-lavender facial hydrator. The latter is particularly useful on long flights, as it’s quite refreshing to moisturise your face to combat the dry cabin air.

Overall Thoughts

It is great to see Finnair doing its part in helping the environment. Making items such as razors, combs and socks on demand also contributes to the reduction of waste.

Are you someone who enjoys collecting amenity kits from the airlines you fly? Or perhaps you’re someone who doesn’t take them as you just don’t need them? Thank you for reading and if you have any comments or questions, please leave them below.
