The partnership between Aer Lingus, American Airlines and British Airways has deepened recently. There are new AerClub benefits for frequent flyers on both AA and BA that have just been announced.

All of this is to provide a more seamless travel experience for customers. It makes sense, considering all three airlines are part of the Atlantic Joint Business, sharing revenue and costs on Transatlantic flights.

New AerClub Benefits

There are different AerClub benefits depending on your level in the programme. On American Airlines, Silver members will receive priority check-in and priority boarding. Platinum and Concierge members receive this as well, plus fast-track security. All of these are available for up to nine passengers on a booking. Lounge access is also permitted for Platinum and Concierge members plus one guest on transatlantic itineraries.

When flying British Airways, the benefits outlined above are identical. There is also the addition of one extra bag in economy for Platinum and Concierge members on all fares apart from Basic/Hand Baggage Only/Saver fares. Concierge also get an extra bag when flying business class. In practice, this will get people Group 4 boarding on American Airlines, and Group 3 boarding on British Airways when flying in economy class. This will keep AerClub members ahead of the many other boarding groups with lower numbers.

Overall Thoughts

All of the new AerClub benefits are detailed on this page on the Aer Lingus website. This will mean that members of the Aer Lingus programme will now be able to take advantage of all the elements listed above.

There is a lot to be said when removing the pain points at an airport. Priority check-in can’t be underestimated to avoid half an hour or more potential queuing in the economy line for one, and as someone impatient (on the inside) I do appreciate being seen quickly.
