Have you seen the food on offer in the Aer Lingus Dublin lounge?

Home base for an airline is usually where you will find its best facilities. This means the Aer Lingus Dublin lounge should be the best of a small bunch, but it’s generally accepted that the ones in London Heathrow and New York are better.

In actual fact, the facility in Dublin is almost as good as the others. Suffering from a lack of space, it can get very busy during the morning rush, and inadequate kitchen facilities mean the food spread is relatively basic.

Aer Lingus Dublin Lounge

The facility underwent a refresh and reopened in early 2022. You can see a few pictures below, but to get the best feel for it all, you’re best checking out this article from when I visited not long after it was updated.

Luckily there always seem to be seats available, even during the busy periods. In a smart move, British Airways passengers have to use a different lounge before 09:00 due to capacity constraints. Just as well, as there really would be no room for them before that.

Barista Coffee

Located in the centre of the lounge is a food area. It is not well positioned as people need to walk through to get to the other seating area, but at least it’s convenient to access no matter where you sit.

A welcome feature in the morning is the ability to get coffee from the Barista. There are also coffee machines around, but why do that when you can get a human to make it for you? Always delicious – next time I must remember to try one or both hot chocolates!

Food and Drink

The Aer Lingus Dublin lounge features both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Beer drinkers can find Guinness (of course) and Heineken (including the 0.0 variant). Wine lovers can find both red and white, as you would expect. There are plenty of Schweppes mixers for other drinks, plus Coke, Diet Coke and Three Cents brand Ginger Beer and Pink Grapefruit Soda. Oh, and there is also apple juice and orange juice in the dispenser.

Food wise, there are overnight oats in the fridge, as well as yoghurt with a fruit compote. For those wanting something less breakfast like, you can also find pots of pesto pasta salad, or barley and quinoa salad. There is a hot option, which is porridge in the morning and soup later in the day. I can attest that the porridge, overnight oats, yoghurt, coffee and apple juice is all very decent. I know sandwiches also appear post breakfast – I’ve had them before and they are also good.

Overall Thoughts

While the food offerings are hardly an array of variety, there is nothing wrong with the quality. Everything is pretty tasty and honestly, how much do you need to eat before flight?

Of course, I am being kind. One would expect something more along the lines of what is offered in the oneworld lounge in Amsterdam which is used by Aer Lingus. However, from what I understand, the real issue is the kitchen space in Dublin. Perhaps the Irish airline should look at expanding their lounge space or making a new one.
