Check out American Airlines’ new Medal of Honor livery on an Airbus A321

I have a lot of respect for people in the military and the potential sacrifices they have to make. Today is National Medal of Honor Day in the United States and American Airlines have unveiled a special livery to mark the occasion.

For the uninitiated, this medal is the highest and most prestigious military decoration that can be awarded in the US armed forces. Those that receive the medal have distinguished themselves with acts of valor.

Medal of Honor Livery

American Airlines have named their Airbus A321 Flagship Valor and the livery features the US Army, Navy and Air Force versions of the Medal of Honor. The six values are also on the aircraft, those being Courage, Sacrifice, Integrity, Commitment, Patriotism and Citizenship.

On the winglet of the aircraft is the AA logo, the plane’s name, as well as 13 stars matching the design of the flag given to each recipient. The number of stars matches the number of original founding colonies of the USA. If you have never read any citations for the medal, you would do yourself a favour by reading some. At random, here is this one for Bennie G. Adkins from the Vietnam War. How about George Phillips (USMC) from World War II? Or David Bellavia from the Iraq war? It’s striking yet sobering reading.

Overall Thoughts

It is great to see the Medal of Honor being given exposure on this American Airlines aircraft. Hopefully it will inspire people to read up on what it means, along with some of the people who have been recipients of this honour.

Regardless of your personal thoughts on war, I believe all veterans who have served in the past (and those serving today) deserve a lot of respect for the job they have to do. Honestly, could you do it?

What do you think of the new AA special livery? Thank you for reading and if you have any comments or questions, please leave them below.

  1. How neat. I’m surprised Southwest didn’t beat them to this idea since they also do a lot of veteran special flights.
