I had a fun week in New Orleans in May. The weather was great; I got to explore the French Quarter; went on a river paddle boat; had the best desert ever, namely Bananas Foster; wandered down Bourbon street listening to music and overall had a really great time in New Orleans.
I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn which was down near the convention center and close to the river. The Garden Inn is a great place to stay as it is maybe a 15 minute walk to Bourbon street, 10 minutes to the Cafe du Mond for beignets in the Riverwalk, and right at the convention center if you are there for an event. It is also about 10 minutes walk from the World War 2 museum which is one of the best war museums.

In early June the prices were only $107 per night for my room, and $152 for a room with a larger floor area with a settee. Really good prices.
A little portico is all entrance there is. Cars must park on the street and then valet will take them away. Valet parking was $47 a night.
A smallish reception desk with a lot of very interesting items on display behind the counter.
This is the entrance area as you enter the hotel. Very elegant.
There is a tourist desk with lots of pamphlets and assistance in booking attractions and events.
This lovely area is alongside the reception area. It is called The Library and is a smart area for relaxing or waiting.
The room:
This is the room I stayed in. Not a bad size with 2 double beds and a comfy chair as well as a work desk.
A nice table, lamp and comfy chair and very nice that they included a book on New Orleans for my perusal.
I was given a small goody bag by reception because of my status. It contained cookies, a small water bottle and spicy crawdad crisps.
Here they are on the desk with the chair and lamp. The lamp also includes different power plugs.
This room includes a pod coffee machine as well as ice bucket. There are 2 bottles of water for the coffee machine but only silly little paper cups. No drinking glasses were provided, I wish all hotels would make glass drinking glasses a standard feature.
The room also contained a microwave oven as well as a fridge.
The open cupboard with the iron and ironing board as well as wooden hangars.
There were power plugs on the night stand as well as the wall. The barcode on the table gives you access to a whole lot of options. There are 10 icons for items such as hotel services, housekeeping, the shop, pet info, your safety and Hilton Honors among others.
This is the view from my room. Down on the right you can just see the pool. The interesting looking building that the sun is shining through is the World War 2 museum.
The bathroom:
This is the view of the bathroom as you enter. On the left is an older bath with shower and shower curtain. On the right is the single basin with body lotion on the wall.
All the toiletries are Zero/o and are rather nice.
The standard shower gel, shampoo and conditioner were on the wall in the shower.
The pool, gym and other areas:
A standard gym with a lot of weights is available, and a nice pool even with the limited space. Some pleasant deck chairs are also available.
This is the shop downstairs. It proved to be very useful as it had all sorts of refrigerated items as well as the regular candy, chips and drinks.
There are noodles and soup and things that you can warm up in the provided microwave. Also ice cream, frozen pizza and other items. Not bad for a hotel snack bar.
Here is the Garden Grill Bar. It proved very popular in the evenings. It is also the area where you enjoy breakfast in the morning.
This is the view out the back of the hotel where there is a walk way to the street out back. On the one evening while I was there part of this area was closed off and the hotel had an event here. It looked very pretty, a neat idea for using the space.
Conclusion:
I had a really nice stay at the Hilton Garden Inn. The room was nice, the facilities are small but complete. The shop was useful, the vicinity to the city was great, overall a great place to stay in New Orleans.
It’s convenient to stay there if going to the Convention Center. Once I redeemed an award there. Some time after making the reservation, Hilton corporate called me and said that the hotel would not accept awards because of a busy convention. However, Hilton corporate said they will change the reservation to a paid stay and that they would pay for the stay. That was really nice. It was a few years before the pandemic, maybe 2017.
