President Donald Trump has fired Secretary of DHS Kristi Noem. President Trump announced the details on Truth Social. Kristi Noem will be replaced by Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin.
Kristi Noem out as DHS Secretary
There were a few different reasons that may have led to the firing. However, here are a few incidents that happened prior to this firing:
- Noem was under fire for her ultra aggressive stance on ICE raids and deportations. She was repeatedly questioned during a hearing about her policies and faced flak for the way in which she was running operations. Lawmakers during a hearing also criticized her rhetoric, citing examples where she labeled the deceased US citizen protestors as ‘domestic terrorists.
- The pausing and unpausing of programs like TSA Pre-check and Global Entry, citing reasons about the need to cut non-essential programs to save costs.
- Internal frustrations grew with her once she was questioned over the purchase of a luxury plane – a plane, which according to her, was going to be used for deportations.
- Another action that was under the scanner was a massive $220 million ad campaign about deportations. Critics say that the ad spend was more just to boost her profile and was a waste of public money. During a recent hearing, Noem said that the campaign was approved by the President. This may have been the final straw that may have led to her firing as DHS Secretary.
