This year has truly been a busy one for the premium credit card market. In this post, I wrote about how this year has seen multiple launches and refreshes of premium credit cards. Chase and Amex have largely done a decent job refreshing their premium products,. However, Citi has dropped the ball with its launch of the Citi Strata Elite Card.
Yet Another Premium Credit Card on the way?
As per Doctor of Credit, Chase is sending out surveys to certain cardmembers asking them to evaluate or rate potential benefits on a new premium Chase Aeroplan credit card. This move seems to be logical, given that Chase already has a premium versions of co-branded credit cards on their Southwest and United card lineup, with cards like the Southwest Priority card and the United Club cards.
If you’re a current Chase Aeroplan card holder and also have transferable Chase points, then Chase is also running a limited time transfer bonus of up to 25%. Chase Aeroplan cardholders can enjoy and extra 10%, bringing up the limited time transfer bonus to 35%.
If you’re eligible and still haven’t applied, then Chase is still offering a massive 200,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points welcome bonus on one of their newly launched premium business credit cards. With this welcome bonus offer on the Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business, you’ll earn a welcome bonus of 200,000 points after you spend $30,000 in the first 6 months of card membership.
The Pundit’s Mantra
While it’s great that Chase is testing out the waters, simply sending out a survey doesn’t necessarily mean that the launch of a brand new premium Chase credit card is a done deal. However, it will be very interesting to see if this one pans out. Over the years, we’ve seen some of these surveys lead up to actual card launches. However, some others have simply fizzled out, leading to nothing new in terms of new product offering in the credit card market.
I really like the Air Canada Aeroplan program as it opens a ton of opportunities to fly with their partners while using Aeroplan points. Over the years, I’ve leveraged the Air Canada Aeroplan program to fly on many of their Star Alliance partners like Thai Airways, Air India, Singapore Airlines, Air New Zealand and Aviance, all over the world.
If Chase were to launch a premium credit card with Air Canada Aeroplan, would you go for it right away? Tell us in the comments section.
